The GW Cycle.
Guild Wars has been out for a few months now, and generally, it has had enough and HAS established a dedicated gamer base, a defined elitism level, and is populated full of pompous arseholes.
Which is all what makes a great online game. If everybody was nice, it wouldn't be any fun. And there has been something I define now as a GW cycle. Through these months, things have happened in a cycle. I now take a humourous view on the GW cycle, and in reading this, you may find your accusations and demands quite silly to say the least.
And please, by all means, FLAME ME. But make it entertaining, I want to flame back.
And so...
THE GUILD WARS CYCLE
For this cycle, I will use the most recent example at the time of this post, Rangers.
1. Guild makes a build that is unique and dominates Hall of Heroes.
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 5 more times."
Community response:
"WOW! I wonder what build they're running! We MUST copy it! Of course, we will flame and shit on it later, but right now, let's copy it!"
2. Guilds copy the build, but of course, it is always the inventors of the build that use it most efficiently and effectively.
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 4 more times."
Community response:
"WTF this is BS. I know even though we are using their build, we must be better than them at using it. OMG SUX."
3. Now that everybody knows this build, it becomes Flavour of the Month. But as we all know, people suck at FOTM builds.
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 3 more times."
Community response:
"Wat iz targeting calling lolxx? OMG REZ ME PLXXXX"
4. The bitch wagon of the elite players rolls in.
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 2 more times."
Community response:
"This is bs. Nerf those rangers. Nerf them all. Nerf arrows. Nerf smite. Nerf Monks. Nerf bows. Nerf swords. Nerf Axes. Nerf this. Nerf that. Nerf their keyboards goddamnit. Omg we must bitch till Anet nerfs."
5. Anet does nothing. Anet knows: "The bitching will pass."
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 1 more time."
Community response:
"Omg bitch bitch bitch nerf this nerf that nerf your mother nerf my mother goddamnit nerf hp nerf mp omg nerf smite omg nerf arrows omg omg omg omg REZ ME PLXXXX"
6. Bitching and whining gains momentum until everyone hates pRp. Of course, that is the fact of life. The more succesful you get, the more haters you get.
"pRp has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. America has taken the favor of the Gods away from Europe! Nah, just kidding, it was Korea."
Community response:
"I ****ING HATE PRP SHIT ON THEM AT ALL COSTS I HATE THEM GANK THEM GANK THEM HATE HATE HATE AHATE HATE HATEHATEHATEHATEHATEH"
7. As time passes, common sense inhabits a lucky soul and something called a counter is made. Thus, the build no longer dominates.
"Moa Birds has won a battle in the Hall of Heroes. To gain the favor of the Gods for America, they must win 5 more time."
Community response:
"RANK 9+ LFG!!!!! IS VERY EXPERIENCED!!!!"
And so, the cycle begins anew again.
Thankyou for your time,
Rusty.

those prp people are retarded. I cant believe it took them a month (normal FotM time) to win HOH 5 times and take favor. (in your post)
So how did MOA birds win in the end? (you wanted a flame war...lol)
Actually, counters dont really end FotM, small unnamed changes in skills do. Counters are there as soon as FotM hits forums. haha...

its only natural for people to copy builds that work... i mean why wouldnt you? what i like about gw tho, is presently seriously any build is counterable, which is sexy. opens up alot of room for variety, with the only limiting factor being your own creativity and the amount of skills...
i still laugh whenever i see ranger builds owning. its just funny how anet does things.

Locked then unlocked? OK. Let's keep flaming, start a little flame war.
I don't see how half-assed topics like this stay off the radar when simple, non-inflammatory questions in Q&A get modded on sight.

This is directed towards me right? I don't usually use such a foul choice of language, but since people think this is a rant thread for some reason, yes!

You fail to take into account that sometime real balance issues are raised by builds and nerfs are often needed. A great example of this was spirits, they were seriously out of hand and a number of great points emerged.
#1) Why are they so spammable?
#2) Why do they get more HP from fertile season making them quite difficult to kill?
#3) Why does nature's rewenal have its best effects occur instantly? Why does nature's renewal shut down so much of the game so well?
#4) Why are spirits able to be used as a barricade so effectively in relic runs?
The result was limiting spirits to one per type, fixing nature's renewal, and making it so spirits aren't affected by fertile season. Most players would agree that this changed the game for the better. Even the spirit spamming ranger teams would agree the games that resulted from spammable spirits were boring as hell.
Similar issue arose around smite and some changes were applied. Now rangers a popping up and some good questions are being raised. Like "Why are interrupt spam or quickshot spam builds so much more effective than the ranger damage boosting skills?" It is a really good point when you consider how few people run the actual skills intended for boosting damage output. It may not be the case that the skills in the new ranger builds need to be nerfed, it may be the case that other skills are simply not strong enough. Sadly, Arena.net has a poor history of buffing skills that are not comparing to other skills (example Mindfreeze) and most often takes the nerf method.
Right now the ranger spiking is new and we need to see how things evolve. However there are more issues than just countering the ranger spike to consider. You need to be able to counter ranger spike and be successful vs other builds you will run into also. If a player's choices are Ranger-spike and a build that can counter ranger spike but will lose to pretty much everything else there honestly isn't much choice. It is better to just run ranger spike in that case. Is the build strong enough that it significantly hinders play choices? Is the build effective, but does it cause the game to degenerate into a state that simply is no fun at all?
While ranger spike is brutally powerful I am not sure it will catch on with PuGs because for the most part they are too inept to run it and IWAY is a much better choice for them.

seems like the original post is designed to glorify PRP as if it is by far the best Guild ever
they way i see it, PRP is just one good Guild among many good Guilds and therefore not as glorious as the original poster makes them out to be

No. It's the GW Cycle. I'm using pRp as an example. I could use smite too. Want me to do that?

Stomped. Stop wasting bandwith. This thread went downhill from the start. It could have been good if we hadn't already seen this topic 1234 times, if the OP had used English, and if he had been creative and funny. Riverside Inn is not a "rant & bitch" forum.
